Thursday - Work/notes on persona.  Listen to some spoken word.  Read Vietnam #4 and Death of the Ball Turret Gunner.  Love Poem.  
Friday - Short persona poem.  Next week: The Poetry Project.  Look for images today.

Monday - Final focus on imagery.  Flash poems based on image slide-show.    
Tuesday (BLOCK) - Focus on RHYTHM.  Listen to a couple of poems.  Read The Star-Spangled Banner and analyze rhyme pattern.  Do some writing in pairs.  
Thursday - Rifleman's Creed clip from Full Metal Jacket.  My Voice by Shane Koyczan.  Skills demo on imagery & rhythm.

 - Movie time!  Of Mice & Men film.  
Tuesday (BLOCK) - Finish movie.  Short skills demo on comparing the book & the film.
Thursday - Tiny grammar review - COLONS, HYPHENS & DASHES.
Friday - Grammar FINAL.  Self-evaluation on state test preparedness.    Based on responses here, I will design next weeks lesson plans.  

Monday - Friday, March 28th - April 1st

Monday - Tiny grammar review: COMMAS.  Conferences on grades.  Reading time.  The book is due finished for tomorrow.  Our final CANNOT be taken late if you have not finished the novel in time.
Tuesday (BLOCK) - Of Mice & Men FINAL.  No retakes.
Thursday - Tiny grammar review: SEMICOLONS.  Write an alternate ending to the novel - assignment is on Google Classroom.
Friday - Finish up & check on grades.


SPRING BREAK!

People, please finish the book over break.  The final is on March 29th and it is the ONLY opportunity you will have to take it.

Monday - Finish your Food System essay.  Due at the end of the period.

Monday - 20 minutes to finish the Fast Food Nation skills demo.  Talk about styles of writing in our last two reading.  Writing practice - being a realist.

Monday - Shifting gears in the second semester to polish up grammar skills.  Grammar focus on HOMOPHONES.
Tuesday (BLOCK) - Check out the Oregon state practice test HERE.  Go through the 11th grade ELA PT and ELA CAT tests.  Take notes about needed skills as you go through it.  We'll be working in the text-books for this next section - Collection 5, The Age of Realism.  Begin with Academic Vocabulary on page 328 and look at Realism vs Naturalism on page 347.
Thursday - Grammar note: less/fewer.  Start reading To Build a Fire in the text book, page 331.

Tuesday - Friday, January 18th - 22nd

No school on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Junior.
Tuesday (BLOCK) - Essay writing day.  Please finish by the end of the period.
Thursday - Peer editing and final revisions.  
Friday - Final work day for re-takes and grade checks. 

Monday - Friday, January 11th - 15th

Monday - Finish the movie.  
Tuesday (BLOCK) - Create an outline for your essay, get it checked and then begin writing.  These documents will be up on Google Classroom.    
Thursday - Finish and run outlines by Ms. B, then start writing.  A blank document is on Google Classroom.

Tuesday - Friday, January 5th - 8th

Tuesday (BLOCK) - Presentation on CONTEXT CLUES for vocabulary.  Two-part activity for Into the Wild: compare/contrast Krakauer and McCandless' lives, and a vocabulary challenge - both in Chapter 14.  The novel is due to be completed by today!  Please bring your movie permission slips.  
Thursday - Start movie.  Please make sure to take notes on parallels between the book and the film.  
Friday - Continue the film.
