Settling in to Autumn

Week Three of the school year and we are getting the hang of it - the new classrooms, the new layout, the new construction.  Please remember to talk to me if/when issues arise with assignments, after school activities, and life in general.  We can make sure you stay on the right path!

Introductions

As Ms. Bonaventure stated in a previous post, my name is Mr. Freske, and I'll be student-teaching in your classes this year. I'm so pleased to be working and learning with you all; I think it's going to be a fun year!

Before we meet, it might help you to know a bit about me: I'm currently in the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Northwest Christian University, where I also received my Bachelor's Degree in English, History, and Christian Theology. As a student, my main area of expertise was Ancient Literature and Ancient History, so suffice it to say, I'm incredibly excited to observe and assist in Scholars class! Also, in conjunction with the theme of Survival as the main focus in the English 1 and Accelerated English 1 classes, my passion for outdoor activities and literature will come into play as well.

I'm looking forward to a great year! I hope this year will help you learn and grow and aid you in becoming strong, intelligent adults!

Mr. Freske

A Different Sort of School Year

I've been hard at work, making this little portable classroom as homey and comfortable as possible.  I think it's going to be an excellent year, even though our campus is in heavy flux.  Consider it an adventure and you will not be disappointed.

In recent news:
  • Scores for the Smarter Balanced tests are in and Pleasant Hill students killed it in language arts.  For reals.  We averaged far higher than the state average.
  • We will be joined by a student teacher this year, Mr. Freske.  More on him later.
  • I have a chance to teach the accelerated freshman English class this year, as well as my usual Scholars and junior classes, so that should be interesting.
Meanwhile, I'm giving the chalkboards (yes, I have them!) a fresh coat of black paint (they were green - can you believe it?) and getting ready to welcome all of my students back.

See you Tuesday!
